Give attention to doctrine:

We believe that the Bible is God's only authority in matters of the Christian Church today.  2 Timothy 3:16  "All Scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,..."

The Bible is mostly missing in the Church today.  We are told in the Bible to give attention to Doctrine. (doctrine means teachings)  1 Timothy 4:13  "Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine."

The Church today does not give attention to doctrine.  The Church today teaches primarily application and therefore we have most churches teaching prosperity doctrine.  Most churches have their Doctrine meetings in the back rooms, once or twice a year, on an off night.  At GBF we intend to give attention to doctrine in our main services.

We intend to copy what the original Church did.   Acts 2:42 "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers."

The reason Christian groups conflict with each other is that not every group uses the Bible as the only authority in matters of the Church.

Therefore our theme verse is taken from a part of 1 Corinthians 4:6.   1 Corinthians 4:6 "Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other."

There is not multiple true Christian Doctrines.  There is only one.   1 Timothy 1:3  "As I urged you when I went into Macedonia--remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine,"

I fear God and hope to be found as a good minister of the teachings of the Bible.   1 Timothy 4:6  "If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed."

Titus 2:1  "But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:"

We live in the "End Times" and were told about the condition of the Church concerning the Bible.   2 Timothy 4:3  "For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;"

The "Emerging" or "Emergent Church" is the new false movement to not endure "sound doctrine".

The divisions in the Church today are because many are contrary to doctrine.   Romans 16:17  "Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them."

2 John 1:9  "Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son."

We should stand up for the teachings of the Bible and the Bible is to be used to convict those who contradict it.   Titus 1:9  "holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict."

Ephesians 4:14  "that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,

I know that posting this page will trouble some people since I dont accept every church as being in the faith.  But the writers of scripture were posting the same concerns.
